Great news came from the Cultural Endowment of Estonia Foundation. The Estonian chess champion Sofia Blokhin was among the most promising young athletes in the country to receive the Young and Talented Scholarship (Noor ja andekas). Congratulations! Many thanks to the Cultural Endowment of Estonia Foundation for the important support in Sofia’s preparations for the resumption of the tournament season and to the leadership of the Estonian Chess Federation for their help in preparing the application.

The third stage of “Tallinn 2020” youth classical chess series took place in Tallinn. In tournament A the winner was Sofia Blokhin. Well done and a nice addition to our trophy room! In tournament B the prize for the best result among girls was won by Sofiya Orlova. Excellent as well! The winner of tournament B was Rasmus Pallum from Rae Huvialakool. Our congratulations!

Estonian U-10 and U-16 classical chess championships took place in Tallinn. Sofiya Orlova and  Sofia Blokhin won silver medals in U-10 and U-16 girls tournaments. Congratulations! Tournament tables are available on the Estonian Chess Federation website.

This past weekend, February 22-23 our club has organized rapid and blitz chess tournaments in Tallinn Paul Keres Chess House. The rapid tournament attracted 62 participants – a great result considering it was our first tournament ever! It is a pleasure to note the success of Sofia Blokhin, the first winner in our tournament history – she took the first place in tournament A with a score of 6.5 out of 7. Well done! Second place was won by woman international master Monika Tsiganova (Chess club Areng). Third place went to Nikita Rychagov (Malekool 64). The prize for the best female result was won by Eva Shadrina (Tallinna MK), Matvei Savinov (Areng) took the price for the best U-18 performance, and Evgeny Mogilny was the best veteran

Rapid tournament А

In tournament B (Estonian rapid rating under 1500) the winner was Roman Stepanov (Vabaettur), scoring 6 points out of 7.  Roman Kasak (Vanad Olümpiaalad) was second.  Daniel Bogovich took the third place. Sofiya Orlova, our club player, was awarded the best female prize. Congratulations to the winners!

Rapid tournament B

18 players took part in the blitz tournament. The Estonian Chess Federation organized live broadcasts of the first four tables.

Tarmo Tuul (T. Truusi Mkk) took the first place with a score of 9.5 out of 11. Second place winner was Andres Karba (Tartu Kalev). Third place winner – Marti Medar (T. Truusi Mkk). The best female prize was awarded to Sophia Blokhin. Congratulations to the winners!

In the  under 1500 rating category Kaarel Oim (Tartu Kalev) won first place, gaining a very respectful 6 out of 11 points. Runner-up was Ilya Snitsarenko (Vabaettur). Third place went to Kertu Karba (Tartu Kalev). The best girl award was given to our club player Maria Helena Rudiger. Congratulations!
